Why Design a new Potentiostat?

There is a Lack of a Mid-Range Potentiostat
Currently, there are two main markets for potentiostats. The potentiostats in the first market are defined by precision, functionality, and price. The second market is DIY/cheap potentiostats. There are pros and cons to both, and with our project we are looking to find a healthy middle ground.
The Markets
Market 1
Pros:
-
Wide range of applications
-
Ease of use
-
Accuracy
Cons:
-
High Price
-
Lack of portability/size
Our Potentiostat
We aim to design a potentiostat that bridges the gap in the two main markets.

-
Easy to use
-
Affordable
-
Accurate
-
Good range of applications
Market 2
Pros:
-
Ease of use
-
Affordable price
-
Could be DIY
Cons:
-
Lower accuracy
-
Small range of applications
Existing Potentiostats
A Third, New Market
Our sponsor, Reactwell LLC, has identified a third market and sees the potential to be the first company to fill that void.
Unlike existing markets that use potentiostats to conduct precise electrochemical tests, Reactwell believes a new market lies in a simple potentiostat that is capable of producing over 1A of current, but without the additional expensive bells and whistles of a research grade potentiostat.
ReactWell has pioneered a novel catalyst that converts carbon dioxide into consumable ethanol. With the world's current "situation," we all can see the uses of alcohol in applications like hand sanitizer. Our Potentiostat will then be used to test these catalysts before they are implemented.
